The vision of Learn2 is

"To seed and ignite learning within the heart of The New Rouse Hill community."

Learn2 is a destination where residents, workers and visitors have equal opportunity and access to a range of formal and informal Learning options.

As a result of community development and learning activities at The New Rouse Hill, an over-arching vision has evolved to encompass all aspects of learning and community at The New Rouse Hill;

"A healthy, vibrant and thriving community; where people have the opportunity to discover, create, learn and connect."

What is the Learn2 Learning Hub?

The Learn2
hub provides access to learning facilities and programs for people of all ages.

The Learn2 hub is shared learning space for a range of organisations including TAFE NSW - Western Sydney Institute, Australian Business Limited Apprenticeship Centre, JobQuest, Hills Chamber of Commerce, NorthWest Community College, tertiary institutions, Department of Education & Training and Private school coordinators, private RTOs and more…..

These organisations share our vision and have become our partners and advocates in the exploration of learning innovation. We believe that diversity of membership is important and invite those who believe they can contribute to visit us at
Learn2.

Initially Learn2 will focus on incubating learning and promoting opportunities within the Rouse Hill region and seeks to determine how both public and private service providers across the Life Long Learning spectrum can be brought together to achieve our vision in practice.

It is not our intent to duplicate, but facilitate existing programs and services operating out of the ‘shared’ Learn2 learning hub. This will create joint opportunities and above all a co–ordinated approach for learners and enterprise alike.

The Learn2
hub offers:

  • A new, fresh and different learning environment for all ages.
  • Enables learning service providers and learning partners to book the facilities to deliver programs.
  • A strong relationship with the Vinegar Hill Memorial Library and Community Centre.
  • A learning centre that responds the needs of Rouse Hill and the surrounding area’s requirements.
  • Referrals to other learning services and agencies – e.g. children’s programs in the centre.
  • A conduit between local schools and the community.
  • A  convenient access point for advice on training and employment needs of the community.

Learn2 offers people of all ages and backgrounds a chance to learn new skills, discover new interests and enjoy new opportunities. So, come, have fun and Learn2.

BACKGROUND

In 2005, construction commenced on the town centre at The New Rouse Hill.  At the same time, a new, not-for-profit organisation (Rouse Hill learning & Community Partnership (RHL&CP))  was established to ensure that initiatives were implemented at The New Rouse Hill that were aimed at equipping residents, businesses, workers and visitors to the North West region with the necessary skills, information and opportunities to create a healthy, vibrant and thriving community that can respond to the rapid urban growth that will occur in this region over the coming years.

By the time the town centre opened on 6 March 2008, learning outcomes totalling over 900 had already been recorded with activities such as,

  • Teacher workplacement as part of an industry scholarship,
  • Recognised Certificate 2 training for over 90 contract staff working within the town centre,
  • Education environmental tours by students ranging from Primary School to University
  • Establishing Stream Watch at Caddies Creek with the neighbouring Primary School

INITIAL FUNDING

The developers of The New Rouse Hill (Lend Lease and GPT Group) invested $2m to establish the RHL&CP, research, identify and take steps to meet community needs and provide physical space within the town centre itself to conduct learning and community events and activities.

The Ultimate goal is that community and learning development at The New Rouse Hill becomes independent of the developers initial seed funding with service providers collaborating and cooperating with one another to create a sustainable environment that leads to improved social and learning outcomes for residents and the region

RESEARCH

From more than 30 years of creating communities across Australia and the world, Lend Lease Communities has developed a series of five key characteristics of learning communities.  The following five key characteristics have been adopted at The New Rouse Hill;

  • Learning for all
  • Contributes to Social Cohesion
  • Contributes to economic development
  • Be a sustainable service
  • Be governed well and responsively

These key characteristics will continue to be used to ensure the delivery of a successful community development at The New Rouse Hill.

In addition to Lend Lease Communities vast experience in building communities, The Hornery Institute was commissioned to conduct extensive research into the learning and community requirements of the Rouse Hill region.  After presenting two reports, one in 2005 and the second in 2006, it was found that for a community to be successful a learning culture must be engendered by providing a broad range of leaning opportunities, strategically targeted to interested learner groups within the community.
